Aillwee Cave

  • When are you open? 

September – Open Daily till 26th of September -  11.00am - 5.00pm 

Flying Displays are Scheduled at 12noon,2pm & 4pm daily

 

  • How long is a Cave Tour?

A tour is approximately 35 minutes in length and tours depart every 20 minutes.

 

  • Is the Cave cold?

The Cave is a constant 10 degrees Celsius/50 Fahrenheit

 

  • What should I wear?

Appropriate clothing and footwear. The cave can be damp and pathways slightly slippy

 

  • Do I have to book tickets online before I arrive?

Yes, pre booking prior to arrival is essential so we can monitor our numbers onsite

 

  • Can I go into the Cave on my own?

No, all persons entering into Aillwee Cave is on a guided tour. There are no self guided tours permitted

 

  • Is the cave suitable for children?

Yes, children of all ages are permitted in the Cave. Please note that you can turn back if the child does not like it when you get to stop number 1. After stop number 1,  you will have to stay with the group for the remaining 4 stops. Buggies are not permitted in the cave as the pathways are too narrow.

 

  • Are children free of charge?

Children aged 4 years and under are free of charge

 

  • Is the cave wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, no it is not wheelchair accessible. The cave passageways are too narrow and there is a set of 24 steps within the tour.

 

  • What does the tour consist of?

The tour consists of 5 stops. Each stop highlights a different feature. You will also see how bears hibernated in Aillwee Cave. There are two bridges to cross and a set of 24 steps to descend within the tour. A circular route which is approximately 1 km in length.

 

  • Can I do both Aillwee Cave & Birds of Prey Centre?

Yes, this is what we refer to as the combo ticket and can be purchased online. We suggest a duration of approximately 2 hours for a visit to both attractions.

 

  • Is there a carer’s discount?

Yes, carer’s go free of charge. Please email info@aillweecave.ie to receive a unique discount code to use when purchasing tickets onsite.

 

  • Do you accept Kellogg’s Vouchers?
  • Yes, please call the office on 065 7077036 and the staff will assist you with making your booking. NOTE: You must also provide your Kellogg’s voucher on arrival to Aillwee to avoid any extra costs

 

  • Are Dogs allowed onsite?

Pets or animals of any nature (with the exception of guide dogs and hearing dogs) must be kept on a short leash at all times.  Pets or animals of any nature (with the exception of guide dogs and hearing dogs) are NOT Permitted into the Aillwee Cave or The Birds of Prey Centre.

 

  • Can I get a group rate?

Group rates are for 15 + adults. If you wish to book a group in please call the office on 065 7077036 or email  info@aillweecave.ie

 

Birds of Prey Centre @ Aillwee

  • Is the centre located in the same place as Aillwee Cave?

Yes, the Birds of Prey Centre is located @ Aillwee. Aillwee is a 26-acre site which encompasses the Cave, the Birds of Prey Centre, the Farmshop where we make our own Burren Gold Cheese and Fudge and woodland/mountain walks all owned and run by local families.

 

  • What does a ticket to the Birds of Prey Centre include?

Entry to the Centre to witness all the raptors in their aviaries and learn about them through educational information boards. See a collection of Eagles, Owls, Vultures, Falcons, Kites, Hawks and much more. See these raptors in free flight during a 30 minute flying display, scheduled daily.

 

  • Can I hold a bird?

Under current regulations and for the Health and Safety of visitors and staff members alike, this is not permitted.

 

  • What is a Hawk Walk?

A Hawk Walk is a unique experience which allows you to learn all about the art of Falconry and what it entails. See roles reverse as you become the Bird handler and the Falconer accompanies you. This is a 1 hour private experience for you.

 

  • What does the Hawk Walk include?

A 1-hour private experience through the Hazel woodland learning all about Falconry as you fly, feed and witness one of the worlds top predators in action – Harris Walk. This ticket also includes a visit to Aillwee Cave for a guided tour and a visit to the Birds of Prey Centre for a flying display.

 

  • Are the flying displays outdoors?

Yes, the flying displays are outdoors.

 

  • Can I adopt a Bird of Prey?

Yes, you can adopt some of our resident raptors online @ www.aillweecave.ie

 

  • Can I do both Birds of Prey Centre & Aillwee Cave?
