I hope all is well, and that the last quarter of this year has gotten off to a good start for you. Here at Aillwee, we have had many team meetings and various discussions about what the Winter Season of 2021 will hold for us. Resulting from these, we have found ourselves at an important crossroads.
Up to 2019, Aillwee has been hosting Santa Claus in his underground Workshop, annually, for 20 years. Even in 2020, Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves enjoyed chats with lots of you, connecting virtually, via the Workshop at Aillwee, from the four corners of the world. Under the circumstances, these ‘visits’ were especially poignant and a privilege for us to provide for everyone who took part.
Since March 2020, the prevalence of Covid –19 led Aillwee to be closed necessarily for 11 of the past 18 months. These lengthy periods of closure allowed us to revisit exciting proposed site developments that have been in the planning stage for far too long. We believe Aillwee deserves the time now to upgrade our visitor experience and enhance the activities we offer to you and others, for years to come.
I very much would like to say how grateful we are for the support from you all when we did get to reopen both this year and last. It is this support that is also driving us to move forward with our plans. In turn we will offer Brand New Experiences to you all in 2022, including a Reopening of Santa’s Workshop at Aillwee. To say we are excited about undertaking these developments is an understatement!
While we wont be hosting them in 2021, Santa and the elves are looking forward to returning to his Underground Workshop at Aillwee in 2022.
Stay tuned for some behind the scenes shots as we document our makeover!!
Regards, stay well,
Nuala Mulqueeney, Managing Director,
Aillwee Cave and Birds of Prey Centre.
